Essential information:

Aluminum sulfate (chemical formula Al2 (SO4) 3, formula 342.15), white crystalline powder of orthorhombic system, density 1.69g/mL (25 C) [1]. In papermaking industry, it is used as a precipitant for rosin and wax emulsion, and can be used as flocculant in water treatment. It can also be used as an internal retaining agent for foam extinguishers, making alum, aluminum and white raw materials, oil decolorizing, deodorant, raw materials for certain medicines, etc. It can also make artificial gemstones and advanced ammonium alum.
Aluminum sulphate, which accounts for about 50% of the total production, is used for papermaking as the first major purpose and for flocculants in drinking water, industrial water and industrial wastewater treatment, accounting for about 40% of the total production of aluminum sulphate. When aluminium sulfate is added to such water, a colloidal floc of aluminium hydroxide, capable of adsorbing and precipitating bacteria, colloids and other suspended substances, can be formed and used to control the color and taste of water in drinking water treatment.

Appearance and character: white crystal, sweet.
Solubility: soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, etc. 
Industrial products are gray, flaky, granular or lumpy, because of low iron salt with light green, and because of low iron salt oxidation and surface yellowing. Coarse products are grayish white fine-grained porous structure.

Main uses:

1. the paper industry is used as paper sizing agent to enhance water resistance and impermeability of paper.
2. Soluble in water can agglomerate fine particles and natural colloidal particles into large flocs, which can be removed from water, so it is used as coagulant for water supply and wastewater.
3. used as turbidity water purifying agent, also used as precipitant, fixing agent, filler and so on. Used in cosmetics as a raw material for inhibiting sweating cosmetics (astringent).
4. in the fire industry, foam extinguishing agent is composed of baking soda and baking soda.
5. analytical reagent, mordant, tanning agent, grease decolorant, wood preservative;
6. stabilizer of albumin pasteurization (including liquid or frozen whole egg, protein or egg yolk);
7., it can be used as raw material for the manufacture of synthetic gemstones and advanced ammonium alum and other aluminates.
8. In the fuel industry, it acts as a precipitant in the production of chrome yellow and color lake dyes, as well as a fixing and filling agent.
