Sodium nitrite (NaNO rammer) is an inorganic salt formed by the combination of nitrite ions and sodium ions. Sodium nitrite is easily deliquescent, soluble in water and liquid ammonia, its aqueous solution is alkaline, its pH is about 9, slightly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, methanol, ether, etc.

White to yellowish granular, rod or powder. It has hygroscopicity. The decomposition temperature is above 320 C. Slowly oxidized to sodium nitrate in air. Brown nitrogen trioxide gas is released when decomposed by weak acid
